Bill Laurance Trio

An expressive composer and proficient bandleader, Bill Laurance, the four-time Grammy winning pianist and composer and founding member of fusion powerhouse Snarky Puppy, continues to explore his exciting range of sounds and ensemble combinations.

From the stunning symphonic collaboration with the Untold Orchestra of his latest EP Zeal (2021) to his high-intensity acoustic trio album Live at Ronnie Scott’s (2020), through to the powerful collaboration with the WDR Big Band Live at the Philharmonie Cologne album (2019), or his brooding piano-led electronica of his latest LP, Cables (2019) – there are few creative avenues that the industrious musician is yet to explore.

The collective pursuit of new sonic landscapes has led to the formation of Laurance’s trio, featuring Lithuanian-born drummer Marijus Aleksa (Ashley Henry, Joe Armon-Jones, China Moses) and bassist Max Luthert (Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, Zara McFarlane). The trio have developed a musical kinship, which has seen new ideas and instrumentation added to the sonic palette. While rooted in the acoustic piano trio form, all three members’ interest in synths, electronics and effects processing, bring a contemporary edge to their work.

The trio recently performed to a sell-out crowd with the Untold Orchestra at the London Jazz Festival at Union Chapel, featuring the world premiere performance of Zeal and Balm from Laurance’s new EP Zeal.

Bill Laurance is a champion of cutting-edge keyboard developments, and is endorsed by Moog, Mellotron, Sequential, Korg, Roli Seaboard, Yamaha, Roland, Arp Odyssey, Nord, Keyscape, Sound Brenner, Native Instruments and MXR.
