Today marks the final day of rehearsals before Terence Blanchard & The Inner City Ensemble take to the stage here at Band on the Wall to premiere their work to a sell out crowd. Since Sunday, they have been exploring brand new compositions and known Blanchard pieces, to assemble a triumphant set for their four-date UK tour.
Yesterday, the Warrington Guardian published an interview with Blanchard, in which he discussed his experiences so far, as well as his origins in New Orleans and his work for Spike Lee.
He told reporter David Morgan “The calibre of the musicians is extraordinary,” adding “We have a couple of guys who are classical musicians, we’ve got people from all walks of life but they are coming together to do something positive.”
“A couple of folks are a little nervous about improvising but when I make them do it as an exercise they show great promise.
“We’ve been having a lot of fun but the main thing I want to do with these guys is open their minds to the possibilities of their creativity.”
The show at Band on the Wall is now sold out but limited tickets are still available for Warrington, Bradford and Kendal. Click the links to the left to buy now.
