Indian Fusion Showcase

  • Band on the Wall, Manchester

Brighter Sound presents an early evening concert of Indian Fusion Music featuring Avital Raz, Sam Lewis and Rangeela.

Jerusalem born Avital Raz is a celebrated singer-songwriter whose impressive career began in Western classical singing before her relocation to India and emersion in Dhrupad- the most ancient form of Hindustani classical music. Her lyrics unabashedly brandish controversial subjects and her unusual performance style is remarkable. The emotion she puts into each performance, and the feelings she evokes create a truly astonishing performance.

“Likely to be one of the most compelling things you hear all year” – Herald Scotland

Sam Lewis will be performing with his Indian-Jazz fusion group Rangeela. Rangeela, which means colour in Urdu, are a free and original trio of musicians who blend their individual musical experiences to create something unlike any other. The music is largely improvised, therefore different every time. As with life, the magic happens in the moment! Listen to the band below.

Musicians:

  • Sam Lewis – Soprano Sax
  • Gilford Singh – Tabla and vocals
  • Liviu Gheorghe – Piano / Keyboard

We’re also thrilled that Avital and Sam will be leading a brand new 10 week course starting January 2016 which will be exploring elements of the rich genre of Indian Classical music. Participants will learn about the tradition and be encouraged to collaborate, improvise, compose and bring their own influences to create new music.

free taster session will take place on 16 Nov – more information here.
