New York’s hottest jazz property appears at Band on the Wall for the first of a series of concerts hosted by Strävan.
Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen is in the vanguard of his generation’s advancement of music and the related arts. A recognised prodigy, Cohen began Suzuki method piano instruction at age three, and his playing quickly became a mature melding of musicality, technique, and concept.
Downbeat observed that his “nimble touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary indicate he’s above any convoluted technical
showmanship.” Cohen notes that performing jazz is “about communicating the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it’s essentially about connections,” both among musicians and with audiences.
During lockdown he created “Live From Emmet’s Place,” a massively successful weekly livestream regularly attracting viewers in excess of 1k and subsequent tours worldwide to a brand new fanbase have followed.
Cohen holds jazz piano degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Miami. He has performed, recorded, or collaborated with Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Jimmy Cobb, Kurt Elling, and countless others. He returns to the Ridgefield Playhouse stage to headline his first show, after serving as a sideman to the legendary Christian McBride on two previous occasions.
This will be Emmet’s only performance in the UK outside of London in 2023 and will be a certain sell out, so get your tickets now!
