Known to fans of the UK’s explosive jazz scene as the voice behind Nubiyan Twist’s stellar tracks ‘Tittle Tattle’, ‘Flow’ and ‘Keeper’ from their hit 2021 record ‘Freedom Fables’, CHERISE has one of the most captivating voices in new jazz and soul.
Her brand new solo album ‘Calling’ has just been released and this October she hits the road for an intimate club tour.
CHERISE put it best her self when she said she was a “Soul Girl at heart with a bold, punky attitude.”
Quickly building her fan base with her music and fresh personality, she was named by Clash magazine as ‘one of the women raising the bar for soul and jazz in the UK’. CHERISE is one of the most sought after emerging young soul singers and songwriters in the UK, hitting the ground running in 2021 with her EP ‘Remedy’, with four timeless songs that showcase her songwriting and rich versatile vocal tone and range.
In addition to her work Wirth Nubiyan Twist, CHERISE’s collab list reads as a who’s who of groundbreaking jazz, soul and the UK zeitgeist – she’s worked with everyone from Steam Down, Rueban James and Omar through to US jazz superstar Gregory Porter, who invited her to sing alongside him for the 2021 Disney Christmas animation and worldwide campaign.
In 2022 CHERISE was also chosen to open for Michael Kiwanuka at L’Olympia, Paris and Colisée de Roubaix in Lille and Jamie Callum for his Spring / Summer European tour. 2023 has seen her opening the main stage at Cross the Tracks Festival and performing at Love Supreme & Elbjazz Festival in Hamburg.
Cherise has developed her diverse musicality out of the UK jazz scene and the legendary jazz talent developers Tomorrow’s Warriors. If her meteoric rise so far is anything to go by, she’s on a similar trajectory for success as so many of her peers and friends, including Femi Koleoso (Ezra Collective, Gorillaz), Oscar Jerome, Poppy Adjuda, Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes, Nubya Garcia and Steam Down. Her version of the Norah Jones classic ‘Sunrise’ is featured on the 2022 ‘Blue:Note Reimagined II’ on Decca featuring artists including SWINDLE, Theon Cross and Reuben James.
This intimate club show might be your last opportunity to catch one of the next UK jazz-soul talents to hit the big time in such a small venue!
Artists on stage: 8.00pm
