Award-winning jazz pianist and composer Zoe Rahman returns to the UK for the third edition of the Jazz Directors Series this October, taking in four shows in Morecambe, Bradford, Warrington and Manchester with the Inner City Ensemble. One of brightest stars of the contemporary jazz scene, Rahman’s vibrant and unique style has won her many admirers including George Mraz, Courtney Pine and Jerry Dammers and resulted in awards including the prestigious UK Parliamentary Jazz Award, Best Jazz Act at MOBO Awards and a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize for her 2012 album Kindred Spirits.
Following on from the success of trumpeter Terence Blanchard’s and saxophonist Chris Potter’s respective Jazz Directors Series in the last year, Zoe Rahman heads up the third edition; the musicians making up the Inner City Ensemble will be selected through an open call application process – details of the open call will be released soon.
The ensemble will play material written by Rahman for a Guildhall School of Music and Drama project, plus new material never previously performed live. The ensemble will include piano, double bass, drums, flute, clarinet, trumpet, alto and tenor saxophone, trombone, and tuba.
