Following her sold-out performance at the Castle Hotel, we take Yazmin Lacey across town for a show at the Deaf Institute.

Yazmin Lacey sings with the directness and emotional clarity of classic soul. Having written in her bedroom for her whole life, she began to play acoustic shows in 2014. As her reputation grew locally in Nottingham, she came to meet the diverse group of musicians who would form her band.

Together, they’ve written an EP which combines Yazmin’s incisive songwriting with the vitality of jazz. Her sound resonates with lovers of soulful and honest music. ‘Brilliant singer/songwriter and great new name for the UK’ Gilles Peterson July 2017.

Black Moon EP was recorded in a makeshift living room studio and selected by Gilles Peterson to be BBC Radio 6’s Record of The Week (June 2017). It was produced by Yazmin and her band, talented multi-instrumentalists whose solo projects (Three Body Trio and Broadstrokes) are finding their own success.

After numerous high profile collaborations (Warren Xlnce, Congi) and support slots (Daudi Matsiko, Fatima, Low Leaf), Black Moon is Yazmin’s first physical release and has already received airplay on NTS, Jazz FM, BBC 1xtra, BBC 1 BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 6 Music and more.

This is a standing show.
