Visit Band on the Wall for a day of workshops and live music!
 
From ukulele to drumming, sensory play for babies and toddlers to songwriting for young people… join us for family fun and musical exploration for all ages, finishing with a show from the incredible John Haycock, modern master of the 21-string African harp. We’ll have face painting and arts and crafts in the bar throughout the day too!

This is a Pay as You Feel event, and there’s no need to book, so just come along and enjoy the day!

1pm-3pm: Music, Magic and Fun – Early Years sensory play space with Jolanta Livesey, for babies and toddlers

2pm-3pm:  Introduction to Ukulele with Kate Gambhir
Aimed at primary school children (though older siblings are welcome too!), learn the basics of the ukulele and walk away having learned 2 songs!

2pm-3pm: Super Speedy Songwriting with Richard Kankondo – for 7-12 year olds
Join Richard in a race against the clock to write and record a song in an hour! You’ll learn about the process of writing a song, exploring rhythm, harmony, structure, and lyrics.

3pm-4pm: Folk Singing with Carmel Smickersgill
Have fun singing in a group, learning harmonies and exploring some new folk tunes and the stories behind them.

3pm-4pm: Super Speedy Songwriting with Richard Kankondo – for 12+ year olds
Join Richard in a race against the clock to write and record a song in an hour! You’ll learn about the process of writing a song, exploring rhythm, harmony, structure, and lyrics.

4pm-5pm: Drumming with Sens Sanga
Ready to make some noise? Join this energetic and endlessly fun drum class! The aim is to encourage wellbeing and unity, as well as celebrating different cultures in a safe, supportive and inclusive manner. Dancing, drumming and keeping fit is for everybody – so everyone is more than welcome!

5pm: John Haycock Performance on the Bar Stage
Having trained with Gambian griot and kora master Jali Juyateh, John takes the 21 string African harp and runs it through a series of electronic devices creating lush soundscapes and solid beats and overlays it with woodwind instruments, bridging the gap between ancient West African Folk melodies and modern electronica, visiting influences from hip-hop to ambient to dub along the way.
