Join us for We Invented The Weekend – a string of family friendly performances with a fun, festival feel. All performances are completely free entry for everyone.
Two fabulous acts will be performing live in the main cafe bar space at The Lowry in Salford Quays. The gig is a collaboration with our friends at the celebrated Salford festival, Sounds From The Other City and Baby Rock Sampler.
Who’s Playing?
Our first act of the day is iamkyami. Giving you main character energy, iamkyami is serving glimmer-swirl indie RnB with a side of poly gluttonous punk attitude. Weaponising positive vibes, theirs is an astute, eloquent head on shoulders that just happen to be enveloped in Hello Kitty dungarees and a streetwear edit overseen by Yvie Oddly.
Our second act is Mickey Callisto. Unlike anything around at the moment, he is a self-aware beacon of positivity who celebrates being yourself in the purest form. A new kind of popstar, he makes psychedelic, bedroom-made synth-pop bangers.
Free entry, family friendly and suitable for all ages.
Timings:
iamkyami 2pm – 2.30pm
Mickey Callisto 4pm – 5pm
There will also be a Club Dada music workshop for kids in front of the cafe bar 1.30pm – 3pm
About the Festival
We Invented the Weekend is a new, free festival taking place in Salford Quays. It celebrates local, North West talent, the vibrant creative scene in and around Manchester and Salford, and also the fact that the weekend was invented right here!
Up until the 19th century, everyone in the UK worked a 6 day week. Then in 1843, right here in Greater Manchester, workers’ rights activists launched a campaign to finish early on Saturdays. They won, and in doing so, invented the weekend – a gift to workers the world over.
