1970s Zambia was dominated by the Zamrock movement – a genre that mixed classic British rock like the Rolling Stones with traditional African rhythms and bush village songs. Right in the middle of it all was WITCH, or, as sometimes known, We Intend To Cause Havoc, a rock band that pushed psychedelic rock to new heights with their African rhythms and influences.
Falling apart in the late ’70s, the band were revived by a 2012 reissue of one of their LPs and a documentary on their extraordinary career and impact. Their first European tour soon followed, to great success, and they’ve not let up since.
