Brighter Sound presents a special Sing City Live night to end the summer term. Following a month of workshops in collaboration with Video Jam (add link), young musicians and filmmakers showcase their original, experimental soundtracks.

Sing City Live, our under 18’s performance night at Band on the Wall, features the best new material written by young people from our regular Sing City sessions. Showcasing Manchester’s up-and-coming music talent, Sing City Live is a great opportunity for young musicians to share their material and perform at one of the city’s most iconic music venues.

This month, we continue our exciting collaboration with Video Jam exploring music and sound in film. Hailed as “one of Manchester’s most innovative nights” (Manchester Wire), Video Jam is an ongoing series of unique events that re-examine the relationship between moving image and live sound. Following four weeks of workshops ( that have seen participants use independent moving images to create original soundtracks, we celebrate with a showcase performance of experimental collaboration.

Free event, open to all ages.

Video Jam has been invited by and commissioned to work with most of the major institutions in Manchester including Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum of Science and Industry and the Whitworth Art Gallery, as well as numerous collectives and organisations such as groundbreaking new media festival Abandon Normal Devices, annual nocturnal arts festival Manchester After Hours, and music festivals Fat Out Fest and Sounds from the Other City.

Sing City Live has successfully partnered with other musical and creative projects from across Manchester to meet up and share a growing body of work. Like-minded young people are encouraged to work together and collaborate on new ideas, with key support from our team of professional musicians and practitioners.

Many Sing City regulars have formed musical partnerships and together they make use of the Sing City Live platform to showcase their new material.  Over the past year Sing City Live has seen performances ranging from solo folk and acoustic artists, emerging hip-hop rappers, to indie and rock bands.  The night belongs to the young musicians; it’s their chance to shine.
