Severe Girls + Fake Wife

Emergent power punk melodists Severe Girls bring their frenetic energy to the Rose and Monkey on June 30 to celebrate the release of their latest single Sunset Mindset.

Songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Andrew Richardson, along with his bandmates Jean Hughes, Chris Clayden and Mike Duckworth, elbows his way into the realms of Buzzcocks, The Replacements, Guided by Voices and Wipers with energetic abandon but lands on something intrinsically his own.

Taking his time to realise what he calls “a good time band”, who toe the line somewhere between 80s American college radio rock, power pop and modern indie rock, Richardson’s genre experimentations as Severe Girls follow his storied musical past as a session musician (Thurston Moore, Infinite Bisous, Francis Lung, Temple Songs etc.) and his fresh take on ‘straight up pop songs’ that exist proudly on the outskirts of buzz band culture and fads.
