S. E. Rogie (full name Sooliman Ernest Rogers) was a singer and guitarist from Sierra Leone, and one of the finest performers of palm wine music, a style closely related to highlife. This was Rogie’s first performance at Band on the Wall, having relocated to London in the same year, and he would perform here once more in 1990 before his death in 1994. His song My Lovely Elizabeth was ranked among the ten best songs produced by African musicians in a 2004 BBC poll.
