On September 23rd 1973 Wigan Casino club hosted its first ever Northern Soul all nighter. Now, 38 years to the day, it’s legendary DJ, Russ Winstanley, will be launching his new monthly residency at Manchester’s iconic Band on the Wall venue. Joining Russ on the night will be Brian Rae and the Mr Ms Soul Twins.
Brian was resident DJ at both Northern Soul institutions: Manchester’s Twisted Wheel and the Wigan Casino. His selection of original 45s is second to none, having bought them first time round.
The Mr Ms Soul Twins Neil and Stuart presided over Wigan Casino’s second room – Mr Ms, a venue in its own right specialising in playing “Oldies” classic northern soul floor stompers.
Over the coming months Russ and his very special guestswill be spinning selections from his vast record collection, from rare sounds, to the classics his seminal night helped to establish over the last 38 years.
In Conversation….Special Event!
Starting off the night at 9pm well-known broadcaster, writer and musician John Robb will be having a live “In Conversation…” with Russ and guest DJs Brian Rae the Soul Twins discussing the Wigan casino and its impact on popular dance and club culture throughout the uk.
Tickets are expected to sell out, so early purchase is recommended. The club opens from 9pm however the bar will be open before hand for those eager to get going.
