Back by popular demand after their huge sold out show in February – Abstract Orchestra Does Dilla!

But that’s not all – for this unique celebration of hip-hop culture, the Abstract Orchestra will perform a range of works from Dilla Dawg’s back catalogue, plus a bonus set of classics from the hip-hop canon, featuring much loved Dre, Ugly Duckling, Tribe and more. This show falls one day after the 20th anniversary of the death of another hip-hop luminary, The Notorious B.I.G – so join us for a massive celebration of all things old school.

J Dilla was one of the most iconic and influential hip-hop producers in the world. He worked with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Common and more. A meticulous beat maker, with an ear for detail and an innate understanding of layering and sampling; his influence can be felt across hip-hop and modern jazz, with Kamasi Washington and various others citing him as a major inspiration.

The 16-piece Abstract Orchestra, led by Haggis Horns saxophonist Rob Mitchell, keep alive the culture of musicians playing live hip-hop. Inspired by the orchestral arrangements by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson of the work of J Dilla, the band strives to merge great musical arrangements with incredible hip-hop from across the decades to create an amazing live experience that truly is jaw dropping. The group work closely with guest MC’s, creating exciting new arrangements of their work and co-writing new music that pushes the envelope of hip-hop and jazz.

The band comprises of a pool of world class musicians who have performed, recorded and toured with the likes of The Haggis Horns, Mark Ronson, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jamirqoquai, Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra, Submotion Orchestra, The New Mastersounds, Amy Winehouse, The Craig Charles Fantasy Funk Band, Martha Reeves, Candi Staton and many, many more.

Keeping the vibes going til late, Taste the Diff’rence DJs and Jamie Groovement take over the decks, celebrating the cream of the culture until the early hours.
