Joining LAGC for this show only is very special guest Sonti Mndebele.

Mndebele is an Afro Jazz singer, songwriter, and entertainer whose passion for music has shaped her life and career. Her musical journey began in her school days, and she became a professional singer in 1974. In 1976, she went into exile, living in Botswana and later Germany. Despite the challenges of spending over 30 years abroad, her love for music remained her anchor.

Throughout her career, she has shared the stage with international icons such as Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Elton John, Sade, and Donna Summer.

In 1980, while in Germany, she performed with Sounds of Soweto before moving to London to join the renowned Ipi Ntombi musical on a West African tour. During the 1980s, Hugh Masekela invited her to tour the UK, Europe, and the USA. While on tour, she also met Miriam Makeba, beginning a decade-long collaboration with the two South African legends.

A major highlight of her career was performing on Paul Simon’s Graceland Tour in 1987, which took her across Europe, North America, Australia, Africa, and Russia. She also appeared at the Grammy Awards and later celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Graceland Tour with Paul Simon in 2012.

She has performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena, the Apollo Theater, and Madison Square Garden, sharing stages with artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and Grace Jones.

Now back in South Africa, Sonti Mndebele continues to share her music both locally and internationally, performing at major festivals and national celebrations across Africa and Europe.
