Following up on their critically acclaimed album Love & Austerity and hugely successful sell-out Trojan Records songbook tour, Pama International return with their much touted soul album – “The Altruistic Soul sounds of…” due to be released on their Happy People label on 18th January 2019.
Since their formation in 2001 Pama Int’l have released 10 studio albums and recorded 4 BBC Radio One Maida Vale sessions. In 2006 they became the first new band to sign to Trojan Records in 30 years. The collective nature of the band has seen them work with; Billy Bragg, Ken Boothe, Rico, Derrick Morgan, Dawn Penn, Dave & Ansel Collins, Dennis Alcapone, Wrongtom, and Mad Professor, whilst their line up has attracted members from The Specials, Madness, Galliano, Steel Pulse, and the Style Council.
The new album draws on songwriter/founder Sean Flowerdew’s love of Northern, British and Southern Soul. From Muscle Shoals to the Tyne it boasts influences of Al Green, Duane Allman, Aretha, Betty Swann, Irma Thomas, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding and Booker T & The MGs, but in true Pama Int’l fashion the album sounds uniquely them.
“As ever their production and taste are faultless” – Craig Charles – BBC 6 Music
