New Manchester Review presents another free entry night of the most exciting emerging music around, ft. We Are Willow, City Reign and Butcher The Bar.
We Are Willow is Chris Butler, the Manchester based artist who combines delicate acoustic guitars with beautiful melodic vocals, electronics and wonderfully refined vocal harmonies to create a stunning sound that is at times sparse and at others incredibly intense.
City Reign is The songwriting pair of Chris Bull and Mike Grice. They met 4 years ago at a Ryan Adams concert, having both recently moved north from London. Having spent some years writing and playing in bands, the current line up named themselves after an Adams song, ‘City Rain, City Streets’.
The early days saw them cut their recording teeth recording some demos with Grammynominee Dan Parry in London’s Metropolis Studio. These sessions were influential in helpingthe band develop the strong guitar sound.
Butcher The Bar, signed to the Morr Music label, is the stage name for Joel Nicholson. He makes folk-pop songs using his guitars and a number of instruments bought from flea markets and car boot sales. For his recent album he earned enthusiastic reviews by the press, that called him a new Eiliott Smith.
