Pianist Mervyn Africa studied music in South Africa before moving to the UK in the early eighties and playing as a sideman for artists like Hugh Masekela and Dudu Pakwana. His quartet consisted of bassist Michael Mondesir, trumpeter Dave Defries and percussionist Nana Tsiboe, and his show at Band on the Wall on 11th October 1990 was as part of a nationwide tour.
