Kenny Wheeler Band make an appearance at Band on the Wall on 1st April 1982. Though born in Canada, Wheeler was by this time considered a British musician, having been based in the UK since to 1950’s and playing with British musicians like Stan Tracey and John Taylor. A week after the band’s appearance at the venue, Spectrum, an outfit which included Wheeler, Tracey and musicians such as bassist Roy Babbington and Manchester born saxophonist Art Themen, released their sole LP, Tribute to Monk, covering six Thelonius Monk compositions.
