The Joyce Quartet, fronted by the prolific Brazilian singer/songwriter Joyce Moreno, appeared at Band on the Wall on 16th September 1999, the same year that she released her first album with UK label Far Out Recordings, entitled Hard Bossa.
To our knowledge, she’s the only artist to have written a song inspired by Band on the Wall, which appears on her 2001 album Gafieira Moderna, her second album release with Far Out Recordings. It’s lyrics elude to venue’s atmosphere, as well as the photo taken in the venue during the second world war, which is displayed in our Picturehouse bar. We’re incredibly grateful to Joyce for penning the song, a beautiful bossa nova track that encapsulates the venue’s charm.
