Week 1 of a 9 week course

A new name and a new slant on this long running Jazz course from Band on the Wall. Play classic standards and explore less well known modern Jazz repertoire with this well established and committed group. All under the direction of local saxophone legend Munch Manship.

The Jazz Foundations course (previously the Jazz Improvisation Group) complements the Wednesday Jazz Improvisation course at the Band on the Wall and the Saturday Jazz Guitar course. Jazz Foundations offers a chance to blow through and rehearse new arrangements of great compositions in a diverse mixture of jazz styles by composers like Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman to Tom Harrell and Duke Ellington. Munch’s specially devised charts offer solo opportunities for the group. Sessions take place in a friendly and supportive atmosphere in the Education Rooms above the Main Venue. New members welcome, all ages*, especially low brass drums and and a bass player! Some reading skills are necessary for horn players and keyboards.

A nine week course of rehearsals with a gig on the main stage at Band on the Wall on Sunday 25th March to finish.
