Ian King

  • Monday | 08.02.10
  • 7.30pm
  • Band on the Wall, Manchester
  • £8 General ...

Ian King incorporates into his nu folk core elements of soul, reggae and jazz with soaring brass sections, resulting in grown-up music that is both intense and mesmeric in equal measure.

One-time dry stone-waller King hails from Barnsley, and that town’s gritty moorland spirit pervades his songs and lyrics as he takes green pasture folk and reveals its glorious, barely-concealed, darker side. Add in the dub-infused, folk/reggae rhythms with great backing vocals and you have a sound that is all his own. Previously described as the Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds of English folk music, his band’s live sets are pounding, thrilling journeys into the wilder lands of the imagination. Catch them while you can on this UK tour.

This concert will begin at 8pm.
