Global Grooves Presents…A Short Course in Pandeiro

Global Grooves is proud to announce its first short course in the pandeiro.  Following several requests from our participants we have developed a short modular study of the pandeiro designed to give you an introduction to playing the instrument and put several styles under your belt to help you play along in your performance groups and ensembles.

Delivered by the Global grooves core team (Leon Patel, Eraldo De Sa Marques and Holly Prest) this course will help you to develop pandeiro techniques in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.

This course is suitable for complete beginners to intermediate players and will focus on key styles including Capoeira, Samba, Coco, Funk and contemporary styles as well as tips and simple juggling tricks to spice up your playing.

Caution – Pandeiro playing is seriously addictive!

 What is the Pandiero?

The Pandiero is the unofficial national instrument of Brazil and provides the backing track to everyday life in the birth place of Samba. The Pandeiro is used in almost every style of Brazilian music from traditional to contemporary/ popular styles and is an integral part of Brazilian culture.

As one of the most important instruments in Brazilian culture, anyone with a serious interest in Brazilian music should endeavour to learn and enjoy the Pandeiro to help them to fully understand the swing and feel of Brazilian music as well as being an excellent way of carrying a whole Bateria around in your bag with you!

Over the years, master pandeiro players have perfected almost any rhythmic style imaginable on the pandeiro. Everything from various forms of jazz, funk, rock, reggae, and more have been performed on the instrument. In many cases, the expert pandeiro player can echo almost anything played on the drumset , establishing the pandeiro is one of the most versatile percussion instruments in Brazilian music.
