The latest course from Global Grooves will focus on Afro-Cuban percussion style, rhythms and technique. Run by Andy Boothman, particular attention will be on the development of hand techniques for tumbadoras (congas) as well as learning the associated percussion parts for each rhythm. Participants will have the opportunity to work with a variety of different instruments and styles and learn several arrangements that will be brought together in a combined dance and percussion performance in the venue at the end of the course. Some previous experience of hand drumming is essential.

Alongside this fantastic course we are also running:

Introduction to Afro-Cuban dances of the Orishas.

This 8 week course, run by Cuban dancer Zaida Arencibia and will cover Yoruba dances for Eleggua, Ochun (Iyessa), Obatala, Chango and Ogun. The course will also cover dances for Palo and Macuta (from the Congo Tradition), plus carnaval dances for Congo Oriental and Mozambique. During the course dancers will work on Cuban technique and physical conditioning as well as learning the choreography for the specific dances. Some dance experience is necessary for this course although beginners to advanced levels welcomed.
