  • Band on the Wall
  • Free event, must ...

Brighter Sound is delighted to welcome critically acclaimed musician Josephine for a one-off Sing City masterclass exploring film and music.

Josephine is an English singer-songwriter with Jamaican and Liberian roots. Her upbringing is reflected in her songs that cover a variety of genres from gospel and country to soul music. Her debut album ‘Portrait’ which was produced by Leo Abrahams, was released in 2012 to critical acclaim.

She manages the rare feat of creating something both novel and nostalgic, yet with an identity entirely its own” – Al Fox, BBC

Oniyama was one of 13 artists to be chosen to take part in Brighter Sound and Band on the Wall’s week long residency with Mercury Prize winner Beth Orton.

In this masterclass, Josephine reflects on how working with Brighter Sound has enabled her to take on some really demanding projects, including a film and music project in Wuhan, China. The session will give young songwriters the opportunity to explore the different ways film can inspire music. This masterclass is essential for anyone interested in learning new and creative songwriting techniques from an experienced musician at the top of her game.

This film and music masterclass with Josephine is part of Sing City, Brighter Sound’s songwriting and vocal collective for young musicians.
