Dan Berglund’s Tonbruket

  • Thursday | 25.03.10
  • 7.30pm
  • Band on the Wall, Manchester
  • £15 General...

Former e.s.t. bassist Dan Berglund releases his first solo recording in early 2010, a brand new set of self-penned music that draws from his background in both jazz and rock, and of course grows out of his seminal role in the extraordinary e.s.t story.  After the untimely death of Esbjörn Svensson in June 2008,  Dan and drummer Magnus Öström decided that it would be impossible to just add another musician to the trio to replace Esbjörn. Berglund has assembled a terrific quartet of fellow Swedes, playing music that stretches from e.s.t to Pink Floyd to Royksopp to Arvo Part.

A stirring, fascinating and brilliantly vibrant collision of musical ideas, this is a bold but highly accessible set of instrumentals that doesn’t care for the constraints of simple categorisation, and an absolute must-see for 2010.” Altsounds

Tonbruket is Berglund’s debut as a solo recording artist. It’s a strikingly confident and varied set that impresses with its original approach. This is music with its own distinct character: each of the album’s ten compositions is unique and unpredictable, and as a result highly memorable.” BBC Music
