Creative Lab Summit

  • Sunday | 12.10.14
  • 12.00pm
  • Band on the Wall, Manchester

A day of Music Industry insight, knowledge & discussion for anyone serious about music… Art vs Money… Creativity and Careers in today’s music industry…

Aside from social media profiling, merchandising, publishing, PRS, PPL, and the usual, practical elements discussed at large for the benefit of emerging artists, where exactly does creativity sit? Where and how can artists take risks in today’s risk averse music industry? Does being brave pay, and how do you balance artistic freedom with making a living?

Hear it first hand from those who have, and do make it work with candid in-conversations and talks around compromise, courage and creative flair.

Speakers include

  • Elbow’s Jupp, in conversation with I Am Kloot’s John Bramwell – “Sticking to your creative guns”
  • Denis Jones in conversation with manager and entrepreneur Gary McClarnan (Sparkle St, Mr Scruff, Homelife, Teacup) – “Split personality – the concept of a dual career
  • Martin Sutton – Songwriter with artists including Pixie Lott, Gary Barlow and LeAnn Rimes – “Commercial Success? Meet artistic integrity.”

Darker Music Talks sponsors:

  • Jeff Thompson – co-founder of Un-Convention – “Are you ready to roll?”
  • Tommy Darker – Musician, music industry thinker – “Being a ‘Musicpreneur’”

Plus workshops, breakouts and discussion forums throughout the day…

Plus a live performance by the Wall of Sounds Creative Orchestra – led by composer Steve Berry and featuring entirely new work written by a new collective of musicians from all points North.

Part of the Wall of Sounds Programme – a partnership between Brighter Sound and Band on the Wall, funded by Arts Council England

Also supported by Manchester City Council and Darker Music Talks
