Journeying through improvised piano / percussion lines and ethereal pulsating tones from an ensemble of metallophones and singing bowls, seeing Irish art music composer Bianca Gannon live is an otherworldly experience. She utilises obscure tunings, gongs, pianistic grooves, hockets, syncopation, extended techniques and crunchy harmonies to creates resonant waves of sound.
A cycle that informs Bianca Gannon’s music is the fact that gamelan music inspired early C20th French composition, which in turn inspired jazz, which inspired gamelan. In bringing together and revealing parallels between seemingly disparate elements, Bianca is inspired by that which connects us.
