  • Four local bands have been shortlisted to battle it out in a live gig at Band on the Wall tonight!

The shopping centre teamed up with Band on the Wall last year to launch a competition to find emerging student bands in Greater Manchester.

Over the past few weeks, a judging panel of music industry experts, including CEO of Band on the Wall, Gavin Sharpe, Tim Thomas from Blueprint Studios and Nathan Sudders from The Whip have listened to all the entries and selected four to play at a live battle of the bands event next Thursday (7-9pm).

The Mancunian bands that have made it through to the semi-final event are: Good FoxyThe RecreationBlank Cheque, and The Kaptivators.  On the night, two finalists will be chosen to play live at Manchester Arndale’s popular Student Spring Break event on Tuesday 21 April, where the audience will decide which band will win and bag themselves their own gig at Band on the Wall and four days studio time at Blueprint Studios to produce a song for release.

Gavin Sharpe, CEO of Band on the Wall added: “I can speak for the entire panel of judges when I say that whittling down the final four student bands was a difficult job. We have been thoroughly impressed with the quality of talent in the Greater Manchester student community and really look forward to the semi-final gig!”

“We have a strong history of up and coming artists playing at the venue and feel this competition could be a great launch platform for an unsigned band.”
