Art Farmer’s first performance at Band on the Wall was on the 15th September 1983. 1983 was a busy year for Farmer, releasing two albums with Japanese label Denon Records (one of which featured pianist Masahiko Satoh) and two further albums with the New Jazztet. During 1983, Farmer was touring with saxophonist Harry Sokal, pianist Fritz Pauer, bassist Günther Wohlgenannt and drummer Juris Dudli, so it is estimated that this band accompanied him for this show, although the line-up is unconfirmed.
