Dubbed “the Hendrix of the Sahara”, Vieux Farka Toure is one of the hottest talents on the contemporary African music scene.

Son of the late maestro and two-time Grammy Award-winner Ali Farka Toure, his music heralds a new generation of Malian desert blues. A highly gifted guitarist, singer, songwriter and percussionist, Vieux has reinvented the fusion music his father created—bringing funk, reggae, and jam music to the desert-blues genre and carrying this new sound worldwide. Utterly astonishing live, Band on the Wall is delighted to bring one of Africa’s greatest new stars to Manchester for this very special concert.

“Africa’s new axe hero marches on.” **** Uncut

“He presents something like an African version of the classic blues-rock power trio with his guitar providing both chiming rhythm and spidery lead … I’d have cranked the whole thing up to 11.” The Times

“Tearing off screeds of glittering, almost orientally flavoured guitar, the 28 year old…takes the desert blues sound in a more rocking, contemporary direction”
**** Daily Telegraph

“The son of the late Malian guitarist Ali Farka Toure inherited his dad’s dazzlingly fluid phrasing but clearly also digs the fiery African blues rock of bands like Tinariwen. Here, he joins American peers for a crossover set that slays”
Rolling Stone

“Farka Toure’s fluid, Hendrix-like runs alternately electrify and soothe, cleanly melding Western rock influences with desert trance-blues grooves into his own identifiable sound.” Pasadena Weekly

This concert starts at 8pm but our Picturehouse cafe bar will be open from 5.30pm for homemade food and drinks.
