Celebrating Jamaican Independence – Summer Reggae at Band on the Wall

Jamaica commemorates its 60th anniversary of independence this August – and we love our reggae here at Band on the Wall, so we’re throwing a pair of reggae parties to celebrate!

We kick off proceedings on Saturday 6th August with a special fundraising party with our friends at the Twelve Tribes Music Body. Featuring a line-up of some of Manchester’s favourite reggae and Caribbean soul artists, this night will be summer sunsplash party with a mix of live music and soundsystems and special offers on the bar. Come and join us!

Then, on Thursday 11th August we welcome Hempress Sativa to Band on the Wall.

A multi-faceted and raw talent, Hempress aka The Lyrical Machine, blends traditional roots reggae with variants of hip-hop, afrobeats and R&B, which she aptly describes as ‘UniverSoul’.

Rising to prominence in 2013 as part of the Jah Ova Evil Movement (which also included the likes of Chronixx and Infinite), Hempress has gone on to release a string of critically acclaimed singles, EPs and albums, including ‘Unconquerebel’ which reached No.1 in the Global Reggae Charts; ‘Scientist Meets Hempress Sativa in Dub’ – a collaboration with dub legend, Scientist; ‘Rock It Ina Dance’; ‘Boom Shakalak’, and the international smash hit, ‘Boom – Wah Da Da Deng’ with Paolo Baldini Dubfiles.
