Richard Spaven got our year off to a flying start, delivering a blistering trio set to an appreciative audience here, in mid-January. He returns to Band on the Wall (a venue he calls one of his favourites to play) during Manchester Jazz Festival: local duo Skeltr and DJ Joe W of Mind on Fire completing the mouth-watering Saturday night line-up.

The versatile drummer, session man and solo artist, appreciates a wide range of music–something which is reflected in his sound. He can whip the music into a frenzy with lightning quick technique, or service a calm groove with restrained, solid playing. There are a number of artists who inform that approach to playing and record making. Richard kindly took the time to highlight ‘ten drummers who make their own records’ in this exclusive Spotify playlist, featuring some of his personal favourites among the set.
