As we approach the third instalment of the Jazz Directors series, led this time by pianist Zoe Rahman, we thought we’d fill you in on some exciting developments following the Chris Potter-led artistic residency earlier this year. Vibraphonist Jonny Mansfield, who participated in the residency and leads his own group Elftet, last month reached a crowdfunding target that will enable he and the group to record their debut album at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios, ahead of a planned release next year.
The album will feature a composition that Mansfield was refining during the residency and will also feature Chris Potter on saxophone; proof if it was needed that participants and residency leaders really do establish strong musical connections over the residency and touring period.
