Little Simz narrates animated short exploring Sun Ra’s philosophy of Afrofuturism

YouTube channel DUST have launched a new animated series exploring Afrofuturism, the afrocentric style defined as ‘a movement in literature, music, art…featuring futuristic or science fiction themes which incorporate elements of black history and culture.’

In it’s first episode, narrated by London-based rap artist Little Simz, they explore the pioneering work of Sun Ra and his Arkestra, establishing the principals of Ra’s work and the key afrofuturist statements of his career.

The Arkestra continue the work they began with Ra over sixty years ago, stopping at Band on the Wall in April. Watch the short film below.
