Terrace Martin, Flying Lotus and others pick their favourite Herbie Hancock tracks

It’s rare that musicians enjoy a career as long and successful as Herbie Hancock’s. From his first professional work with Donald Byrd in 1961, to his pivotal 1964 LP Empyrean Isles and his legendary jazz-funk outfit which gave rise to The Headhunters, he has continuously explored musical genres and collaborated with new and exciting musical figures.

His recent work has seen him collaborating with Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Flying Lotus and Jacob Collier among others; musicians who regard Hancock as a hero for the work he has done and continues to do.

Ahead of his concert in Brooklyn last week, several musicians including Terrace Martin and Flying Lotus, selected their favourite Hancock compositions and performances. Read the article in full via NPR’s ‘a blog supreme’, and check out a clip of Terrace and Herbie jamming at the show, below.
