The Sing City weekly sessions return to Band on the Wall after a very successful residency week which included a songwriting masterclass delivered by Ivor Novello & ’Q Magazine’ award winning songwriter Simon Aldred aka Cherry Ghost, who shared the skills he’s learnt as a professional to a very eager audience of young songwriters.
The residency featured over 25 young people working together, and with our expert artist team, to create new and original music over the course of 5 days. This week culminated in three very special performances, at Band on the Wall, Unit 25 in Cheetham Hill and at The Halle St Peters as part of the launch of the Ancoats Dispensary Trust.
The next stage of Sing City continues to build, develop and nourish the exceptional talent of the young people involved by incorporating regular performance opportunities into our programme.
The all new ‘Sing City Writes‘ will be an chance for all participants to showcase their material, both solo and collaborative, and a way for young people from other projects to meet up and share their growing body of work. Likeminded young people are encouraged to work together on on singing and songwriting, with key support from our team of professional musicians involved in this project.
Our regular weekly sessions will focus on creating new and original songs, perfecting them for a monthly showcase performance.
Sing City is a fantastic opportunity for young vocalists and songwriters to broaden their skills, collaborate and perform. In these sessions they learn to sing and harmonise, develop new vocal skills and share their own, write completely new music, grow in confidence and of course, make friends.
These sessions are led by a team of expert vocalists and music educators who all work professionally in the music industry, this fantastic team includes Yvonne Shelton (Gloria Estefan, Simply Red, George Michael), Sara Lowes (Marina & the Diamonds), Liam Frost (solo artist, TOKOLOSH Project) and Beth Bishop (who runs Brighter Sound’s fantastic music workshop for babies ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’, which takes place in The Picturehouse every Saturday morning!).
