Band on the Wall is one of the UK’s most celebrated live music venues and a registered charity, dedicated to bringing people together through music.
For more than 50 years, we’ve been at the heart of Manchester’s musical life. From hosting jazz legends and helping shape the city’s post-punk scene, to welcoming today’s most exciting artists from around the world, we’ve built a reputation for presenting exceptional live music that crosses cultures, genres and generations.
Our iconic name comes from the building’s early days, when musicians performed on a stage built high on the back wall of the venue.
Today, every ticket sold, every course attended and every donation made helps us do more than present unforgettable live performances, it helps us create opportunities for people of all ages to discover, learn and make music.
We programme hundreds of concerts each year, showcasing internationally acclaimed artists alongside emerging talent. Our work extends beyond Manchester through a national touring programme that brings outstanding live music to audiences across the UK.
Our World of Music programme offers creative opportunities for children, young people, adults and families throughout the week. From early years sessions and youth workshops to choirs, instrumental learning, bands and community music-making, we help people build confidence, develop skills and experience the joy of making music together.
Our spaces are fully accessible, and bursaries help ensure that financial circumstances are never a barrier to participation.
As a charity, we work with schools, colleges, artists and community organisations to widen access to music and creativity. Together, we create inclusive opportunities that celebrate Manchester’s diverse communities and use music to connect people across cultures and generations.
We believe music has the power to transform lives.
Whether it’s a child’s first music session, a young person’s first performance, an emerging artist taking to our stage, or an audience discovering music from another culture, every experience helps build confidence, creativity and connection.
By supporting Band on the Wall, you’re helping us nurture new talent, champion diverse voices, remove barriers to participation and ensure that exceptional live music remains accessible for everyone.
Whether you’d like to experience incredible live music, learn a new skill, hire our spaces or support our charitable work, we’d love to welcome you.
Band on the Wall has received national recognition for its live music programme, accessibility and audience experience, most recently being named Inspirational Venue of the Year (Under 2,000 Capacity) in 2024.
