Fast-rising musician Yoni Mayraz combines jazz with elements of 90’s hip hop, old-school breakbeats and Middle Eastern music to create shimmering new hybrid forms.
A highly-skilled keyboardist and producer, Yoni burst onto the new jazz scene in 2020 with ‘Rough Cuts’, an EP that introduced the world to his unique musical style. Since then the London-based player has collaborated with the likes of Ruby Rushton’s Tenderlonious and Dance legend El-B, and released his critically acclaimed debut album, Dybbuk Tse! on Astigmatic Records.
Dybbuk Tse! sees Yoni channel his native folklore – the title alludes to a command to remove a malevolent wandering spirit (the Dybbuk) that enters and possesses the body of a living person until driven out – to posit ideas of emotional exorcism through music.
Mayraz has received vast recognition for his music with media support from outlets such as KEXP, BBC 6, Bandcamp Weekly, CLASH Mag, etc, and is currently on tour with his band (Tom Driessler – bass, Zoe Pascal – drums) performing in venues and festivals around the world.
