Having played all the major festivals this summer, Manchester’s favourite sons The Rainband launch their new EP with this very special concert at Band on the Wall.

Having played all the major Festivals this summer including being asked to perform a second show at Glastonbury by organisers and having just provided main support for Badly Drawn Boy at CavFest’, The Rainband are now preparing for their new Single and EP release with a host of UK and European tour dates.

Following the release of ‘World We Seek’ as a free download for their fans last June to celebrate playing Glastonbury, the band’s new single ‘Fire’ will be released on 3rd November, preceding ‘Fire EP’ (released 10th November). This will kick starting a UK tour and before the band head into Europe which will see the band play Paris, followed with several Italian dates among which Milan, Avellino and Rome where they will headline the Circolo Degli Artisti, the most famous music club in Italy. The band will then head to Dublin to support ‘The View’ in December, along with several dates in the UK.

The band’s five track new EP ‘Fire’ both marks an evolution in their sound and asserts their musical identity. The Rainband’s songs combine atmospheric and gritty sounds with inspiring and meaningful lyrics, becoming the band’s trademark. The tracks were recorded at the legendary Parr Street Studios with producer Steve Pilgrim, (best known for playing drums for Paul Weller), and mixed by Stan Kybert, the man behind ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Over the summer the line-up grew into a five-piece with addition of Sam Wilson onto bass, with brother Joe Wilson moving onto guitar. “The music we are writing is a league above anything we’ve written before. Music is a journey and as a band it takes time to find your own sound. “Fire” feels like the first glimpse of that. With the addition of Sam into the band, the sound is bigger…..It helps that as brothers, Joe and Sam, argue much less than the rest of us!” says front man Martin Finnigan with a smile.

Founded at the end of 2009 by front man Martin Finnigan and guitarist Phil Rainey (former band mate of Peter Hook in Monaco), the band became a four piece when drummer Steve Irlam and multi-instrumentalist Joe Wilson joined the ranks, and recently grew into a five piece with new addition bassist Sam Wilson. The band’s musical debuts set the tone, earning them raving reviews from the likes of Liam Gallagher and Jim Kerr, and in 2011 the guys had become an established name in Manchester. Followed tours and supports with legendary acts such as Simple Minds, Ocean Colour Scene and The Kaiser Chiefs, an invitation to the British Music Awards as Rising Stars handpicked by O2, and their single ‘Rise Again’ entering the top 10 indie charts on its release in June 2012. ‘Rise Again’ also broke through in Italy, remaining fourteen weeks in the Virgin charts and peaking at no.5. Released in tribute to late Moto GP rider Marco Simoncelli and in aid of the Simoncelli Foundation, so far ‘Rise Again’ has helped raise over £25.000, and Martin Finnigan carries on his work for the Foundation as UK ambassador.
