Naming Bon Iver, Radiohead, Ravel, Planxty, Johnny Doran and Nick Drake as influences, the key with this group is their collective sense for arrangement.

Their chosen genre tagline – “neo-acoustic Celtic post-rock” – might not be the pithiest, but the stunningly innovative Irish-American trio The Olllam, featuring renowned uilleann piper John McSherry and Detroit’s Tyler Duncan and Michael Shimmin (of Celtic/jazz crossover outfit Millish), can afford to let their music do the talking. With Duncan also on the Irish pipes, plus whistles, guitar and Rhodes, and Shimmin on percussion, they create lush, narrative-style soundscapes located somewhere between Planxty and Radiohead.

“If Lúnasa set the gold standard for traditional acoustic music, these guys are bucking for platinum.  The word ollam is old Irish for a master musician, and there are three master musicians here.” – Irish Music Magazine
