SoundMoves is an experimental collaboration between six exceptional performers from a range of artistic backgrounds, developing new work that explores the relationship between dance and music – the devised and the improvised.
Jessica Murray, Karen Wood and Dora Cruz combine rhythm tap, contemporary, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban dance styles alongside highly talented and versatile musicians Myke Wilson (percussion), Al MacSween (keys) and Giuliano Modarelli (guitar).
SoundMoves Performance Sharing & Tap Jam
This sharing is the culmination of research and development funded by Arts Council England and supported by Band on the Wall / Brighter Sound and Contact Theatre, Manchester.
The performance is a tapestry of sound and movement that blends influences from around the world to celebrate diversity as well as exploring a myriad of connections to find common experiences in the improvisational moment.
This performance will be followed by a live music tap jam and you are invited to join the musicians on stage to express yourself too! Whether you would like to dance or play all musicians and dancers of all levels of experience are welcome. You can even use our tap shoes for free!
There will also be a free renegade stage workshop in The Picturehouse led by SoundMoves project artists before the event for those who want a tap taster – shoes are provided!!
The Renegade Stage will begin at 7pm and is included in event entry fee.
As part of the SoundMoves project, the artists have been running two participatory courses at Band on the Wall and Contact aimed at dancers/movers interested in improvisation & rhythm. See HERE for session dates.
On the evening of the SoundMoves Performance & Tap Jam event, the artists will be running a special workshop session for any dancer/mover from any genre to build their skills and boost confidence in rhythm and improvisation which they can put to use later on at the jam!
