Music for your brain and booty: Brooklyn’s Snarky Puppy bring their dazzling, genre-bending, jazz/funk/dance-fused sounds to Band on the Wall for a night of exhilarating music. Additionally, as a special bonus, the band will be performing a set of songs created with a group of emerging UK musicians on a collaborative project at Band on the Wall earlier this year.
The 3-time Dallas Observer Music Award winning group (“Best Jazz Act” 2008, 2009, 2010) fuses a deep knowledge and respect for musical tradition with sonic and conceptual innovation in a way that is able to reach the most critical, or most carefree- audience.
Recently the band has gone from underground secret to one of the most internationally renowned names in instrumental music featuring a host of musicians built around the consistent core of Grammy Award-winners Robert “Sput” Searight on drums (God’s Property, Snoop Dogg) and Shaun Martin on keys (Kirk Franklin, Erykah Badu). Led by award-winning bassist/composer Michael League, Snarky Puppy delivers raw funk and sensitive dynamics, relentless pocket and lyrical melodicism, lush harmony and soulful simplicity, and most importantly, a delicate mixture of composition and improvisation. Expect this band to completely blow you away.
Plus…
As a very special additional treat for the night, the band will also perform with group of local musicians who took part in their Wall of Sounds Artistic Directors Series earlier this year. This saw 3 members of the band – bass player and band leader Michael League, drummer Robert ‘Sput’ Searight and keyboard player Bill Laurance – leading a 5 day intensive residency to create new material with the specially selected artists. Come enjoy the amazing music that was made that week all over again.
