The Smoove and Turrell story began in the post millennium North East of England with a group of working class lads and a shared passion for soul. Their debut Antique Soul was released in 2009, and it became a kick-starter for their raw brand of electronic northern soul, which comes with a healthy dash of rocking blues and funked up disco for good measure.
By the release of their latest album Red Ellen, the band have been touring far and wide, building up a loyal fan base enthralled by their socially conscious lyrics and explosive live shows. Once again showcasing their commitment to creating quality songs, with meaningful lyrics shining through in every single one.
The album’s title pays tribute to Ellen Wilkinson, an influential UK politician who championed social justice, reflecting their socially conscious stance and northern roots.
