A double bill of unadulterated, high octane blues from two of the most sensational guitarists performing on the international circuit today – Skip ‘Little Axe’ McDonald and King Size Slim.
“Effortless and adventurous” The Guardian
Little Axe mainlines the old Delta blues and plugs it into the 21st century.
From first picking up a guitar as an 8 year-old in Dayton, Ohio, to making his name as a member of the legendary Sugarhill Records house band, it’s been a long and twisting road for Little Axe and his raucous blues-based sound. He’s performed on some of the most influential rap classics, and played with everyone from Grandmaster Flash and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, to Tackhead, James Brown and Robert Plant. But the blues were always at the heart of his sound, and these days Little Axe’s music explores the rich musical tradition he grew up with.
Three decades on, and with a string of acclaimed albums under his belt, this is a rare and wonderful opportunity to see one of the main driving forces in modern blues on stage. Expect a blistering set from this charismatic and stand out guitar man.
“Alive and very much kicking” BBC
“Just blew me away…the real deal” eFestivals
The big warm tones from his resonator guitar, along with a powerful and direct vocal delivery, are the trademarks of King Size Slim. Add rolling grooves and percussive hooks, and you have a songwriter who delivers original compositions that are steeped in a world of music that is fully conscious of its roots, but at the same time has a new story to tell.
Best Emerging Artist winner at the 2014 British Blues Awards, and now performing over 150 shows a year, King Size Slim has become a ‘must see’ act on the alternative blues circuit at venues and festivals around the country.
“A talent out of the young and bold blues bag who can show those old Delta boys a thing or two” Barry Marshall Everitt, House of Mercy Radio
