In the Name of Ra
Amun [Ra] had no need for the sun.
He would bring his own light with him.
“Driving, energetic, visceral jazz ensemble with intuitive interplay. A great set that had the crowd whooping and cheering mid-song as each instrumentalist was given space to explore. Fabulous!”
– Lancaster Jazz Festival
‘In the Name of Ra’ draws on the energies of those around us and those that have come before to bring an eclectic, vibrant and powerful sound to the stage.
Founded in 2023, they take inspiration from world, jazz and free improvisation, striving to inspire our listeners to dance and move freely to unlock the rhythms and spirit deep inside.
Named after the Egyptian God of the Sun, ‘Ra’; The idea of the sun as an everpresent source of life and energy is what drives their ethos and identity as a band, fuelling their passion to bring vibrancy and raw emotion to every one of their shows.
The London-based band released their debut album ‘Amun’ in October 2024 – it is a summary of who they are and what they offer as a collective being. They delved deep into their inner voices and powers to bring something that represents them and their collective sound.
Their highlight gigs include Vortex Jazz Bar; Lancaster Jazz Festival; Oliver’s Jazz Bar; Jazz Refreshed; Grow Hackney Wick; Temple of Art and Music; Peckham Audio.
