Often thought of as one of his generation’s greatest lyricists, rapper Sage Francis earned acclaim in the late 90s and early 2000s for his imaginative take on indie-hop, blending socio-political spoken words with inventive background beats.
He soon became one of the best-selling artists of the genre. He formed his own label, Strange Famous Records, in which he sought to uplift other indie hip-hop artists. His debut album, Personal Journals, was a ground-breaking addition to the hip-hop and rap canon.
He’s back to the stage now, but with a limited number of dates. His show at Band on the Wall is only one of two in the whole of the UK – so be sure to head down while you have the chance!
