The perfect Valentines night out with Cocteau Twin’s Robin Guthrie performing his intensely beautiful and iconic music with his trio plus Ride’s Mark Gardener. They’ll be performing two seperate sets plus a very special final one together at what promised to be a sublime evening. Special guest support tonight from Modern Painter’s front man Daniel Land.

Robin Guthrie was the chief sound architect of Cocteau Twins, and his
reverb-drenched guitar textures have been a huge influence on the story of alternative music since the early ’80s. Numerous acts have emulated his style, and several others — including Felt, the Gun Club, the Veldt, Ian McCulloch, Lush, and Lift to Experience – have enlisted his production skills.

Along with Cocteau Twins partner Simon Raymonde, Guthrie launched the Bella Union label during the ’90s for splinter projects and artists they wanted to help nurture. Guthrie continued running the label during his new band Violet Indiana‘s late-’90s/early-2000s run. Over the last decade he has released a series of challenging, excellent records – albums, EPs and soundtracks whilst based in France. The release of his latest album, Fortune, is his first new instrumental release since the acclaimed 2011 album Emeralds. In the intervening time he’s continued his series of albums with revered American pianist and composer Harold Budd and collaborated with Italian electronic artist, and is bringing his new trio to the UK for a rare but highly anticipated tour.

Special guest Mark Gardener was the frontman of iconic shoegaze/Britpop band Ride.  Gardener has established himself as a solo artist playing shows extensively around the world alongside his ongoing production, mixing, collaboration and soundtrack work which includes the NME and Mojo 2011 vision award winning film Upside Down (The Story Of Creation Records) for which he scored the original soundtrack. Gardener will no doubt join Guthrie onstage for a few numbers during what promises to be a very memorable concert tour. Indeed, he released the joint single ‘The Places We Go’ with Robin Guthrie earlier this year, a collaboration they hope to continue on this tour.

Support guest tonight is Daniel Land – from the critically-acclaimed The Modern Painters, creates a shoegaze inspired ambient sound that is part minimal, part epic, and wholly engaging.
