The funky, free form musical melting pot that is RagTag launches its first night at Band on the Wall with a very special live set by the brilliant Afrobeat band Ariya Astrobeat Orchestra. Plus DJ Irfan Rainy and special guest Phil Asher serving up a hot spiced brew of funk, salsa, samba, reggae, soul and much more until the early hours.

RagTag is the brainchild of acclaimed Mancunian Dj/ Producer Irfan Rainy, set up in early 2010 to continue Irfan’s 21 years of spinning music and a celebration of  the city’s rich musical identity.  Be it Soul, Funk, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Disco, Electro, Hip Hop, Go Go, Salsa, Samba, African Music, House, Techno and Broken Beat, Manchester has a played a part in developing it on a  global scale.  Expect it all at Rag Tag and then some.

For the first show at Band On The Wall, the sound of Afrobeat  with a performance by Ariya Astrobeat Orchestra from Leeds, who burst on the scene with a cover of Jimmy Hendrix’s ‘ Crosstown Traffic’. A highly infectious feel good band, paying homage to the legendary James Brown, Fela Kuti, Free Jazz and Funk. 

Phil Asher

The second guest artist is one of the countries most respected Dj/ Producers Phil Asher from London. A prolific artist who has performed in most parts of the world, produced over a hundred singles and a dozen plus albums of everything from House to Jazz Music.A regular performer at The Southport Weekender, Soul Heaven and currently has a weekly radio show on Push Fm. Phil will represent his super varied ‘Inspiration Information’ sound, a party that ran weekly for 13 years in London with infamous DJ Patrick Forge, where anything goes as long as it grooves. 

Irfan Rainy

Founder of RagTag, Irfan Rainy started his own record label Rainy City Music back in the mid 90s, and has DJ’d at hundreds of events including alongside celebrated artists including Tony Allen, Angie Stone, Seu Jorge, The Roots, Norman Jay, Giles Peterson, Jazzanova, Salsa Celtica, Joe Clausell, Joe Bataan, James Pants, Arthur Baker,DJ, Greg Wilson, Rahaan, Erik Rico amongst many many others. 

This event starts at 9pm but our Picturehouse cafe bar will be open earlier for drinks and good times.
